When I first started gardening, I kinda just threw seeds in the ground and hoped for the best. Garden plan? What’s that? …and I got very sub-par results! What I didn’t really fully realize was how much garden planning impacted what my garden produced. So over the years I’ve gotten much better at garden planning, and I’ve gotten way better results!
I am giddy with excitement over this year’s garden! It’s been our best garden yet! The secret was soil testing. It’s all about that soil, man. This is our third spring garden since moving onto our tiny homestead, and just maybe we’re starting to turn our brown thumbs green 😉 The key, as always, is in the soil. And by doing some… Keep Reading
Squash, squash, everywhere … too much to eat! Are you growing squash this year? Squash and zucchini are well known for being prolific producers – some gardeners get so much of it that they are doorbell ditching and leaving baskets full of it at their neighbors doorsteps just to get rid of it! Now, my squash didn’t do thaaat well… Keep Reading
Tomatoes. Is there anything better than a fresh, homegrown, summer tomato? Probably not. As far as gardening goes, they are my personal holy grail. To me, without the Christmas season there’s just no point to winter. And yes, that’s coming from a Floridian…I make no excuses. I grew up 10… Keep Reading
Nothing gets me quite as happy as playing in my garden. Even in the winter! Last week we did some serious garden prep work. We layered all kinds of things on our garden bed so that it can work it’s magic over the next 4-5 months before spring.
I’m obsessed with my dehydrator. It’s true. And I can’t believe that my husband had to do some serious negotiating with me to convince me to buy it…for $12 at the thrift store. Seriously?? What was I thinking!? Well, I’m glad I was convinced, because I am an absolute dehydrator convert now. I love it! I’ve used it to make… Keep Reading
