Hi! My name is Lindsey, and I got my first chickens a few weeks my after my husband left for basic training.
We had purchased and moved into our 1/3 acre homestead from a little apartment with our two daughters under 3, just a few months prior to him leaving.
We had been dreaming of homesteading for years. Obsessing really.
I had been dreaming of homesteading as a result of everything I’d been learning about health and the agriculture system in the USA. We had already started eating as clean as we could afford and detoxed our cleaning cabinet.
Homesteading was the next step. And it took a lot of sacrifice to get out of that apartment on one income.
I started a blog to chronicle my new homesteading adventures, hopefully make some side money, and fill my time while my husband was away. What readers didn’t know was that for the first 6 months of my blog my husband was at basic training with the Army National Guard. And I was in hell.
This homesteading dream had just started to come true! But it was hard going it alone with a 2 year old and a 3 year old, and lingering postpartum depression/anxiety that I didn’t want to acknowledge.
I was miserable, and I felt like I was drowning, and there were no lifeguards, no life jackets, no pieces of drift wood to shove a freezing Jack off of in the middle of the Atlantic…
Because remember, I had just moved…I was a new home owner, new chicken keeper, new gardener, new kid in town, and still a new mom, and…a new military wife. And my experience wasn’t like the tv shows where the military wives rally around each other during deployments. No. My husband was in the National Guard. His unit was made up of people all over the large state of Florida. I didn’t even know the other wives names. My husband and I didn’t get letters for 45 days, and didn’t talk on the phone for months, and when we finally did it was for 5 minutes.
I was an island with my chickens and baby girls.
That’s when a blogging friend started talking about something called essential oils. They were fairly new on the scene back then, and I was beyond skeptical…but I was desperate.
So I went for it. I had kids I wanted to keep healthy (that’s why I started homesteading in the first place!) and I wanted to deal with my mental health. No scratch that –
I NEEDED to deal with my mental health. I was all alone, and I needed something to help me through.
Why not these crazy herbal essential oils my new blogging friends kept talking about? I had nothing to lose. I placed the order, and I dove head first into teaching myself everything I could about essential oils.
And it worked.
My kids were healthier, I was healthier, a couple weeks after using my oils my mental health improved drastically! I felt like myself again. I began to throw myself into motherhood and homesteading like I had always wanted to. I started growing my blog, and myself. I started exercising again, and even though I still missed my husband,
I was finally thriving in the life we were creating.
This experience was so crucial in my life. Though painful, it was a catalyst for incredible personal growth. A few years later I found myself postpartum again after welcoming our third precious babe. Added onto years of my husband being out for unexpected (though short) deployments, and undervaluing selfcare, led to chronic stress and burnout.
I had to rebuild again. But this time I knew what to do, and again oils and supplements came to my rescue.
My mission with this business started out as helping other moms homestead.
Now my mission is to help other women homesteaders nourish their minds, bodies, and souls. To cultivate health. To live fully and love their lives.
Because I know life is crazy. I’ve lived it. I’ve drowned in it, and I’ve learned to swim and enjoy it. I will teach you to balance homesteading and taking care of yourself (body & mind). I will help you live your passion and purpose (soul). You deserve to live fully alive in the lifestyle of your dreams.
