It’s that time of year when I get to pretend I’m Oprah and tell you all about my favorite things from 2019!
favorite health & fitness
Jaybird Bluetooth Earbuds : Y’all, I resisted investing in a nice pair of headphones fooorrreeevvver. But I workout and walk on the treadmill everyday, so I was using my crappy headphones multiple times a day. Well, my sweet husband couldn’t stand it anymore and bought me these just because earlier this year. And they are handsdown my favorite thing of all this year. I use them all the time. When I work out, when I’m cleaning the house, cooking dinner, working at my desk. I can pop these in and listen to podcasts, audiobooks, or music. Clear sound, super comfortable, hold charge very well, and charge FAST. Have worked every time. Love love love these.
Burt’s Bees Foot Creme : It’s about to get personal. We’re gonna chat about my nasty heels. I’ve suffered with severely cracked heels a lot over the last several years. Like, bad. I’ve taken the best supplements, and done all the nutrition things. Nothing helped. So when we moved to Washington State this year the dry heat really started to become a problem for my poor heels. I searched high and low for a foot creme or lotion that would help my heels that didn’t have petroleum or freaking turpentine in it. For real y’all, that was a struggle in and of itself. But Burt Bee’s didn’t let me down. Clean ingredients, and boy does it WORK. I put this stuff on my feet at night and then put on some socks. I did this daily when I was having cracked bleeding heels. Now I do it a few times a month for maintenance. Winning.
Adaptiv Capsules : These mental health supplements are nothing short of life changing. They’ve helped me manage my anxiety and depression and get off the mild prescription I was on for both. I couldn’t be happier with these. I take one a day and they are fantastic. It’s been a stressful year for us, but these have really helped me and my kids be calm and happy. Adaptiv Capsules are completely unique in the health supplement field. They are one of a kind, addressing three root causes of mental health struggles. Adaptiv supplements support
- increased seratonin production (happy hormone!)
- increase GABA (to slow down overactive neuron firing, ie, mind racing)
- supplement the body with extra Omega 3’s (essential for healthy brain function)
Turmeric Duo Capsules : These again, are a life saver. I’ve been training for a 5k, and working out a lot more in general lately. And I had an old injury flare up. These bad boys have helped to decrease the inflammation in major ways! Again, this is a one of a kind supplement, not available anywhere else in the health supplement industry. It combines the turmeric root powder (high in curcmerins) and the turmeric essential oil in one capsule. This unique delivery system has been researched, and it was found that this dou capsule makes Turmeric 11x more bioavailable and therfore 11x more effective at decreasing inflammation. Boom!
Ceramic Diffuser : This little diffuser made a lot of stir when I shared it in a picture on instagram. I love this beautiful diffuser so much. It’s available on Amazon, and it works like a charm. I adore it!
ButcherBox : Have you tried ButcherBox yet?? It’s full of high quality, grassfed, grass-finished, meats from family farms. It’s delivered to your front door monthly, and it’s just the coolest thing ever. I love old fashioned, but man, 2019 is pretty awesome too. This has been such a time saver for me. I don’t have to do hunting for high quality meat at 6 different stores each week. I get all the meat our family needs for the month at once, at my door. It’s an incredible value too. For all the meat you’re getting, it’s a great price per pound. Saving us money, time, and supporting farmers who are doing it right. Yes please! (get $30 off your first box!)
The Outcasts of Time : Two brothers are infected with the Black Plague in the 1300s. They are approached by an angel(or devil?) and given the chance to live their last 6 days suffering with the plague, or, live each of the next 6 days 99 years in the future…. Loved the plot line, loved the historical details interwoven into the story, felt like you were really there with them.
The Great Divorce : C.S. Lewis. Need I say more? Allegorical story of what the afterlife may be like. Very thought provoking.
The Flight Girls : A young woman is a contracted flight instructor and pilot for the airforce during WWII. She witnesses and survives Pearl Harbor. There’s a gripping love story, but it’s really about this young woman, and the other female pilots, and their experiences and sacrifices as pilots in the 1940s. Based on real women pilots who served in WWII.
Women & Money : Very much enjoyed this book, finished it feeling fired up and inspired to be powerful with my money. I prefer Suze to Dave Ramsey. I appreciate her perspective as a woman – as women often really do need to think about money differently then men. Her advice is more realistic, up-to-date, and doable than Dave Ramsey, in my opinion.
Five Feet Apart : Two teenagers with cystic fibrosis fall in love but can’t get more than 6 feet apart from each other. It’s the fluffiest book on the list, and yet it was touching and very moving.
How to Stop Time : Following a man through his unusually long life and search for his daughter. He appears to stop aging around 15….
apps & podcasts
Libby: This made the list last year, but I had to put it up here again. Connect it to your library with your library card. Download eBooks and audiobooks for free. Never use audible again. It’s awesome!
Noom : You may have seen ads for Noom, and I had too. I wasn’t really interested until I watched my cousin really transform her lifestyle and lose 30lbs with Noom. I’ve been struggling with getting the last of the baby weight off, and I’m not gonna lie, stress eating. So I decided to give it a try. I’m glad I did. It’s not a diet, I can eat literally whatever I want, whenever I want.
It’s a tool to help change your psychological relationship with food, keep you accountable with a coach, and to teach you lifestyle habits and help you develop those habits in your life, in your own way. It’s also very helpful in that it doesn’t focus on weightloss. It helps you find other positive health results in your life, and help you create a more body positive mindset. I’ve found it really encouraging and helpful. I’ve dropped a pant size and gotten so much more comfortable with my body as I’ve built strength and balanced relationship with food. And bonus – I’ve dropped a pant size, and I’m on track to lose 15lbs by the end of 2019! (get a 14 day free trial and $20 off your first 4 months)
The Office Ladies : There are so many podcasts, but I haven’t added many to my regular listening routine. Except The Office Ladies. I’m a big Office fan – the show’s first season aired when I was in college, ehem. And when I heard Jenna Fischer and Angela Kensey were launching a Podcast where they dissect and discuss each episode in order…y’all I was there in a hot minute. This is THE podcast I won’t miss, and I’m excited each week when a new episode uploads! I highly recommend it to any Office Fans, or anyone who’s fascinated by how tv shows are made.
