For the sake of transparency, and because I have nothing else ready to share with you (because this failed, ehem…) I’m starting a ‘Frugal Fail’ series, in which I’ll show you some of the projects/ideas I’ve tried that haven’t worked. There seems to be a phenomenon in the blogging world where readers think that bloggers somehow have super powers, doing it all and doing it all well. That is anything but the truth around here folks. To prove it, and to hopefully give y’all a good laugh, I’ll occasionally share stuff like this…
Fruit flies are an embarrassing little secret, aren’t they?? You bought some bananas for your kids, how dare you! And half a minute later you’ve got a couple of fruit flies. A sink full of lunch dishes that sat till dinner, and you have a full on swarm. Am I right?? In the past I’ve used the “apple cider vinegar + soap in a jar with a paper funnel” method to get rid of these nasty buggers, but that’s just unsightly, in my opinion. What’s more unsightly though, is the fly paper that the Husband-Man has on occasion insisted we use…ugh, I hate that stuff. So when I saw a pin on Pinterest for cheap, homemade, less-unsightly fly paper, I was all about trying it out.
I had my 3 year old help me, while my 2 year old
screamed napped, and thought to myself what a great thing this was to help her fine motor and scissor skills….well, it turns out that was all it was good for. Because these do. not. work. At least not for whatever unearthly mutant fruit flies I have in my kitchen. Perhaps your fruit flies are different and this will work for you. But for me it didn’t. And I’m not saying it just didn’t catch any flies. No. I’m talking about, I actually saw a fruit fly walking around on this stuff and then fly off on it’s merry way. And let me tell you, this junk is s-t-i-c-k-y.
I’m telling you, mutant fruit flies. They’re getting revenge for those simply awful and grueling weeks of experiments I did on them in my Biology Lab in college…
I guess I’m back to a paper funnel in a jar.
