Fresh blueberries are taste of heaven, wouldn’t you agree??
This week I took advantage of an amazing discovery! Not too far from where I live there is an organic blueberry farm. I almost did a happy dance when I found this out! My girls definitely did a happy dance when I told them that blueberry picking was on the list of activities for the week.
Not only were the blueberries just absolutely delicious, but the farm itself was gorgeous. When we went it wasn’t too hot, you couldn’t hear traffic, we were some of the only people there so it was basically me and my girls in the middle of three acres of blueberries. Beautiful.
I got to talk with the farmers a little bit, and its a family business that they started from the ground up only a few years ago. You could tell the love and care they have for their land and their crop. And I just always get a little thrill out of being able to thank farmers directly. And I know they enjoy seeing how much we (mostly my very-protective-over-her-blueberries daughter) love the food they’ve worked so hard to produce. It’s a beautiful relationship, farmer-consumer, that has sadly been all but lost.
I found their farm through LocalHarvest.org, and I encourage you to please go there and look for local farms near your homes. If we can support our local farmers we can support our communities, our planet, and improve our health. If you’re already supporting local farmers, spread the word!
I mean, who wouldn’t want to take a bucket (or three) of these home?? Now I just have to decide if I’ll make blueberry muffins, or blueberry pancakes for breakfast…who am I kidding? My kids will probably eat them all fresh before I get to bake with them!
And, who could blame them?
