My oh my. This has been quite the undertaking! It seems like it’s been taking forever to complete this sucker. But in reality we’ve only been able to work on it on the weekends, when it hasn’t been raining, and until this week it was too dark in the evenings. And it is slow goin’ because as anyone will tell you, pallets are tricky to work with. My poor hubby has been working like mad with all his free time! So it’s close, and it’s starting to look really nice.
Anyways, here is the second phase of building the chicken coop! We’re getting pretty excited for chickens around here!Let’s take a look, shall we?
What is that I see?? A door!
There’s that hardware I mentioned in the last chicken coop post. I could have picked out cheaper hardware and saved a few bucks, but, really, we’re already saving a bundle and that hardware is gonna make a really nice finishing touch.
Here are the beginnings of the nesting boxes. There will be three of them, and it’s actually a bit farther along than this right now but the rain is stopping me from getting photos.
Cobalt has been enjoying his time in the chicken coop … boy is he in for a surprise when the chickens move in!
And then the roof! In this photo you can also see at the bottom of the coop he cut a door for the chickens, it will allow them direct access to the run. It’s boarded over right now to keep our kids out!
And shingles! The shingles that were given to us by our neighbor ended up not quite being enough, so we got some that were in our shed and used them to finish it. It’s mismatched, you can see the shingles on the ridge are a different color. I’m a little disappointed about it, but it doesn’t look terrible. And we didn’t pay a thing for it. Gotta remind myself this is shaping up to be WAY nicer than we could have afforded otherwise.
And there you have it! Phase two! Hang in there with me. The final phase is on it’s way!
